|IJmuiden Traffic center. 11-12-2009
The large building on the left is the IJmuiden Traffic Center or "Haven Operatie Centrum", HOC for short.
Recently the lower part of the building was built and taken into service. Before, the upper part was the site of the radar and communications operators as well as the pilot watch.
The smaller building to the right is the old semaphore.
By means of light signaling, codes were sent to the approaching ships giving information on traffic, navigation and berths etc..
Next to it is the small lighthouse, in the background the actual lighthouse, together they form a light-line to navigate into port when they are in a straight line with each other. You can see the lights switched on here.
