Canadian NAFO inspectors patrolling the NAFO Regulatory Area (NRA) boarded the Portuguese fishing vessel AVEIRENSE fishing Greenland halibut in NAFO Division 3L. A citation was issued to the master of the vessel for using chafer flaps, attached to the top of the trawl, that obstructed the mesh in the codend or main basket of the net.

November 16,2004
Inspectors boarded the Portuguese fishing vessel, Aveirense, in Division 3O (Southern Grand Banks) and issued a citation for small mesh netting found on board in a wet condition containing fresh fish near the trawl deck that had not been lashed and stowed and was available for immediate use.

May 4,2004
The Portuguese vessel Aveirense was issued two citations for retrieving their net less than 30 minutes after receiving the signal from the inspection vessel and fishing for a moratoria stock (American Plaice).
