Built 1928 the fourth of the Port Fremantle class of 1927. She had the second longest service record with Port Line at nearly 37 years, second only to Port Dunedin at just over 37 years.
During her long career she had two serious collisions and a number of fires.
1930 She had her refrigerating machinery modified and lifted the first cargos of chilled beef from Australia, followed by NZ.
28/2/1940 collided with Loch Dee and both ships returned to Halifax for repairs.
22/10/1940 while in Convoy OL8 the escorting destroyer HMCS Margaree; ex HMS Diana cut across her bows and was sliced in two. 142 of her crew perished with 34 survivors being rescued by the Port Fairy.
5/2/1941 fire Wellington NZ
12/7/1943 bombed which caused fires onboard, repairs at Casblanca took 6 weeks.
1952 engine failure in Pacific
1954 fire at Swan Hunter's yard at Yarrow.
1954 sailed from Hull but broke down twice and returned to port each time.
29/12/1955 fire at Piraeus,Greece.
13/2/1958 lost propellor.
29/10/1960 Ironically after her own engine problems towed the Port Townsville to Auckland NZ after she broke down.
1965 sold and renamed Taishikan for voyage to breakers.
4/6/1965 arrived Hong Kong for breaking up.
22/7/1965 Final fire which caused onboard explosions and took three days to extinguish.
