The name of this jackass-rigged barque is the META AF BYXELKROK, from Sweden. She was wrecked many years ago.

Sorry Jürgen, your link leads to the 3m-schooner ISOLDA currently under restoration at Göteborg. ISOLDA is built of iron.

The history of META AV BYXELKROK can be found in volume IV of "Deutsche Schoner", written by Herbert Karting, issued by Hauschild Bremen.

META (according to the book her name from 1915 to 1971) was built of oak in 1915 by Carl Holzerland jun. in Barth, Germany for Hermann Ihns. Her first port of registry was Barth. In 1919 Detlef Christensen became her new owner who registred her at Stettin.

In 1925 META changed to the Danish flag and new owners, then registred at Søby. Two years later she was sold to Sweden. Over the years there were several owners. Her first engine was installed in 1927. In 1954 her rig was changed from 3m-schooner to ketch (galeas). Her time for carrying cargo was over in 1963. New owners intended to use META as an engineless studio. However in 1965 a new engine was installed and her rig changed again to 3m-schooner, she became a pleasure yacht in the guise of a pirate vessel. She acted in several "Pippi Långstrump" movies and finally in 1969 as an emigrant ship in the movie "Utvandrarna" (emigrants) for which yards were added to her fore and main masts making her a jackass barque. Her name in that movie was CHARLOTTA.

After a short spell as an advertisings ship and floating discotheque she was rebuilt again, this time as a charter vessel named META AV BYXELKROK. The picture probably shows her on her way to the Mediterranean. At first her charter base was Nice, then Rhodes. On from late 1974 she was up for sale without success. In November 1977 she sank in a gale off the Greek island of Kefalonia while on her way to her winter berth in Italy.

To me it isn’t clear that META AV BYXELKROK ever was her registred name. Since 1944 META was homeported at Byxelkrok. It was and sometimes still is common practice to call a ship by its name and homeport. In Germany the sailors would have talked about her as META von Barth, in Danmark META af Søby and in Sweden she was known as META av Byxelkrok on from 1944. The photo of 1971 shows her with a short name board.
