2 ship loaders on wharf which extends 1.8 km out to sea.

Hay Point and Dalrymple Point combined handle up to 130 million tonnes of coal a year, on 900 odd ships. Ships up to 230,000 tonnes can be accommodated.
Coal is transported by rail from as far afield as 300 km away in central Queensland.
Trains can be up to 2 kilometres long(100-120 hopper wagons) and normally are hauled by 4 or 5 diesel or electric locomotives
Hay point was opened in 1971 and Dalrymple Point in 1983. Further expansion is planned
