In France, we have a bad memory of this tug. December 2, 1976, he failed in his attempt to tow the tanker Apollonian Wave, off the coast of Aquitaine. In October 1977 his efforts were woefully inadequate in his attempts to refloat the same Apollonian Wave in Mimizan. But more seriously, he has failed to tow the super tanker Amoco Cadiz, on 16 March 1978 and the tanker broke in two on the coast of Brittany, causing one of the worst oil spills of the story.
After 15 years of investigation, his master, Hartmut Weinert, was found innocent of the charges against him. H. Weinert has suffered a lot from these accusations. When he died in November 2003, he asked that his ashes be thrown at sea, off Conquet, Brittany.
