- two, with SWL 5 ton, for Hold No. 1;
- sixteen, with SWL 5/10 ton, for Holds Nos. 2 to 6;
- one Stülcken, with SWL 24/48/80 ton, for Holds Nos. 3 and 4. Stülcken was equipped with additional portable controller.
Each ship also had one 5 ton service/provision crane (close to funnel, starboard side).
This picture is interesting, as we can see all possible modes of operation applied at the same time:
- 'union purchase' mode, with SWL 2,5 ton - over Holds Nos. 1, 2 and 6 (derricks are secured with preventers);
- individually slewed derrick, with single runner, SWL 5 ton - over Hold No. 3;
- individually slewed derrick, with doubled runner for SWL 10 ton - at Hold No. 4 (in fact, swung out to make place for Stülcken)
- Stülcken derrick, with full runner purchase for 48/80 ton SWL (winches had two pull/speed gears), working over Hold No. 4.
Not welcomed by crews, simple, but inefficient and requiring time-consuming maintenance, derricks were request of military,
who wanted to have easy-to-operate equipment on ships, that were all considered a potential military transport reserve.
