The U.S. Coast Guard's icebreaker Bristol Bay, based in Detroit, Michigan, has just completed a 360 degree turn in the narrow channel of broken ice on the St. Clair River at dusk on Jan. 13, 2011. It is assisting, with the help of the Canadian Coast Guard Samuel Risley, the tug/barge combo McKees Sons and Invincible through a several mile long ice jam above Lake St. Clair. Near Algonac, Michigan.

Thanks Dean. It was a dark day but nice to be able to see the icebreaking and escort operation. Soo Locks close at midnight Tues. 1/18 so this is kind of the last gasp of the shipping season.
