|Dover Tugs escorting the MS Spirit of Britain ferry in Dover Harbour, Kent, UK.
The above photo shows the MS Spirit of Britain about 4 minutes after she first entered the Eastern Entrance from the Straits of Dover and English Channel.
The Eastern Entrance, now behind the ship, is bracketed by the Eastern Arm pier on the left and the Southern Breakwater on the right.
The super-ferry has almost completed a ninety-degree turn to starboard and is about to head towards the ferry terminal in the Eastern Docks.
Nearing midships of the Spirit of Britain is the Dover Harbour Board tug, DHB Dauntless; her sister-tug, DHB Doughty, is almost completely hidden by the ferry's bow. Both tugs are firing their water cannon in a traditonal salute - its amazing how much water these dinky little boats can carry! :)
To the right of the base of DHB Doughty's jet of water is the Dover Port Control building on the Eastern Arm.
The above photo of the Spirit of Britain, best viewed in a larger size, was taken from near the lighthouse and cafe end of the Prince of Wales Pier at 11.09 am on Sunday, January 9th, 2011.
The ferry is scheduled to begin operating on the Dover to Calais route on January 21st.
