Description:

US Army, Dept. of Engineers, dredger Essayons on the Hudson River in New York, 1983.

Launched at Sun Shipbuilding Corp, yard # 565, on 25 August 1949, she was commissioned in January 1950. At the time of her build she was the largest dredger in the world.

She arrived at Alang in India on 16 May 1992 to be broken up by Bharat Shipbreaking Corp

There is also a newer dredger carrying the same name of which there are seveal shots on site.

This has nothing to do with the photo but the name of the ship is also the motto of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and also the name of one of their tugs, now retired I believe.
