Description:

SD14 Katerina Dracopoulos delivered by A&P, South Dock, Sunderland on 25 May 1977. Better shots on site, but I wonder how many SD14's ventured up the Orwell to Ipswich where this shot was taken.

Hi Allan

Nice pic and brings back many memories. Anna Dracopoulos, Katerina Dracopoulos and Empros were regulars on the Empros Lines East Med service to Ipswich. Other SD14s that come to mind at Ipswich are Niki and Kifangondo. Biggest vessels seen at Ipswich have been handy size bulkers...the 24073 dwt UBC Bremen being the largest . Longest vessel to call was quite recent...the Danzigergracht of Spliethoff at 157m l.o.a. Part loaded tankers of about 14-18000 dwt appear from time to time with biodiesel or molasses.

Hi Guys,

I never visited Ipswich very often, just called in when on a rare business trip, but was pleasantly surprised to see this one sitting there. I did not know Ipswich could take vessels this size.

Excellent work, Allan - I recall that the Angolan SD14's had occasionally loaded at Ipswich
