I was cadet on this vessel in 1972 and 3rd engineer on her in 1974. Both trips went to Vietnam during the war. Ship wasn't air conditioned. They don't build ships like this any more. She was a fast hard working vessel. Her top speeds were over 20 knots. Good old ship, many memories.

I have about 60 ships the I hold a historical interest in. USL AMERICAN CHALLENGER was built the year I was born. One of 10 in its class. Saw these in Norfolk, VA frequently while in the Navy.
