Description:

Muncaster Castle was one of two container-fitted, multi-purpose cargo ships delivered by the Mitsubishi yard at Shimonoseki in 1977 to companies within the Moller (UK) Ltd group, based in Hong Kong. The other was Merry Viking and they were the Moller contribution to the Hong Kong Container Line service from the Far East via Jeddah and Suez to Venice. From Venice containers were delivered by rail to their destinations allowing the Hong Kong company to offer similar transit times to the regular, high speed, container lines. The service ceased in 1981 and Muncaster Castle, which perpetuated the name of a ship belonging to James Chamber's Castle Line, which Mollers took over about 1946, was sold in 1981 and broken up at Alang in 2009.

Mollers (Singapore) office also managed 3 other ships namely India Rosewood, Burma Teakwood and Blyth Adventurer. There were 2 other sister ships of the same design in the service but different owners and one was called Amado.
