Good for you, Clive, good for you! Now let us enjoy the beautifulness of this KUNGSHOLM on the pic before she was uglied.

Oh, I see. Well, I only wish that I'd been in a position that would have enabled the 1953 Kungsholm to have been 'mine.' She was a very lovely ship. I was fortunate to be able to go aboard her twice, once when she was Europa and once as Columbus C. She is a great favourite of mine. The last Kungsholm was a natural development of the previous Kungsholm and Gripsholm. I consider her to be one of the most beautiful passenger ships ever built. Again I had the good fortune to go aboard her as Kungsholm and to make three cruises aboard her as Sea Princess. She was a superb sea-boat - I was on her in a Force 11 and she rode it very well.

These vessels were the last to come from the once great John Brown shipyard, sadly the British have lost the ability to build these fine ships, and our local yards are fast joining that sorry state. mrdot.

I heard she has been sold to Oman as a hotelship. Can anyone confirm this?

CGT's Normandie and Italian Line's Michelangelo and Raffaello are my favourites...

Nearly agree, France does it for me followed by Caronia and United States.

Best looking liner ever built if you ask me.

She was also was also the third to last traditional passenger ship built in a British Yard, the the others being the Queen Elizbeth 2 in 1969 and Vistafjord in 1973.

All are still in existence.
