Container capacity is 1700 teu. It's not my dreamboat, but what I see is that the "ugly" front of the accommodation gives shelter to the lifeboat, which makes sense to me. But perhaps the whole concept of the ship makes you shiver. It's an open top ship, that is a ship built without hatch covers, and the purpose of the girders will be immediately clear. The concept saves time in port, though a drawback is the harbour dues because of the high gross tonnage. Owners Wagenborg bought their first open top container ships in 1994, the 338 teu Reestborg and Reggeborg, built at Verolme Heusden, Netherlands for another company, which cancelled the order. In 1997 Wagenborg bought the 1000 teu Roerborg (ex-Castor, built 1990 for KNSM-Kroonburgh). The state-of-the art Rijnborg was the first ship worldwide fitted with Wärtsilä 6L46F diesels. The two 7500 kW engines together drive one propeller, which warrants an optimum power use at different speeds. Service speed is 21 knots. Ice-strengthening complies wkith the highest Finnish-Swedish class.

All the best,

Anton

Ian and Ted, regarding your comments about the ugliness of this ship. I am heavily impressed, this photo made it to the top today. I think, we can see now, that not only beauty can bring one right to the top ! :D

Ted, elevator-alike feeling.. I know, when you book the luxury cabins on ferries, the ones that are most forward with good view on the bow, you can get this feeling too :-) There, you pay extra !

Hi cornelia
the problem with those ships with bridge fwd is that
a) they are more difficult to steer, because the helmsman
does not have a "view-point", i.e. bridge aft one can
see the relation of the moving horizon with the cranes
for example, which is on these ship mor difficult

b) in bad weather it is like in a elevator, only quicker.
not real good to sleep in, one gets used to it, but
seldom heard good about it

Captain Ted, love your play on words, agree completly, it is an ugly piece of errrr SHIP

Ted, I am not sure, whether this ship is ugly, or whether it's just an "another way around" containership. Unlike most of them having the bridge aft, here's on the front. Always reminds me in a truck ! Driver having the good view, whereas the cargo is behind. But true, it's a strange one !
