Description:
Bluff NZ
15/5/2011
Built 1997 as Merkur Sky for the charter market, by one of the oldest shipping companies in the world Vinnen of Germany.
After many name changes she has reverted to her original name and is on charter to MSC.
She is one of class of eight, all are operated at the moment by MSC,with the possible exception of the Priwall.
Others are MSC Canberra,MSC Don Giovani,MSC Eleonora,MSC Lara,MSC Mediterranean, MSC Natal and Priwall.
The first Vinnen ship to visit NZ was the Magdalene Vinnen, an auxiliary sailing Barque in 1933 and 1934, and again under North German LLoyd as the Kommodore Johnsen in 1939. She is still afloat as the Sedov and was to be used in a movie about the loss of the Pamir, I'm not sure if this film has been completed.
