for here on the nothern hemisphere may be,,for the southern hemisphere logical, You have any idw how expensive the running/maintainence cost for the ELBE the big pilot boat stationed thee ?
This solution is cheap as can be and lowest maintenance possible

If I were a pilot, I would rather be on this vessel between jobs that an old seagoing tug, or any other kind of small vessel.

Captain Ted,
Even still it seems overkill for what it is when you consider the size of the ship and how much of it won't actually be used for the purpose.
I presume the Argentine Government Department concerned with pilotage is so short of cash they have to resort to obsolete ships.

@JAMES C
Cnsider the circumstandes it makes a lot sense if you consider where the pilot station is
to Rada la Plata it is 12 hrs up the river,,to buenos aires it is about 15.
There is no other argentinian port close by, Using a converted ship, tanker or as before general cargo ship makes sense because she is permantly achored. Which means no maintenance cost and or fuel costs to go in and out, for the time in/out they would need a 2nd ship, So overall it makes very well sense,,for that area and situation

I must say I'm baffled at an old tanker being used as a Pilot mothership, or indeed using a general cargo ship (her predecessor) for the same purpose.
Surely it can't make any kind of budgetary sense - an old seagoing tug or an ex corvette or the like would surely make much more practical sense.

Buenos tardes fabian
un pregunta,, esto buque DF-19 un nuevo estation de piloto position de RECALADA, DE 15 ?

in english
is this the replacement vessel for the now RECALADA DE 15 vessel ?

The now pilot station at Recalada is actually a argentinian build general cargo vessel with the V masts (Stuelken) , I think from the 70,s if I am not misstaken.
