Description:
The Sugar Islander II connects Sugar Island with Sault Ste. Marie across a very narrow spot in the St. Marys River. The ferry operates the year round and was built in 1995 by Basic Marine Inc. of Escanaba, Michigan. So far it has managed to avoid the heavy traffic of both Great Lakes bulkers and salt water ships which make a 90 degree turn here. March 27, 2011.
