Description:

The Great Lakes bulker Arthur M. Anderson, built in 1952, is upbound on the St. Marys River in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on March 27, 2011. The Anderson is famous for being the ship following the Edmund Fitzgerald when that unfortunate ship sunk. The Anderson reported the Fitzgerald had disappeared from the radar and later that night, after it had reached shelter from the gale, went back out to search for the Fitzgerald and its crew. Given the conditions at the time that took a lot of courage on the Anderson's part.

Such a beauty, and with her involvement in the Fitzgerald sinking, I hope she never goes the way of so many of the lakers these days. She would make the most fitting memorial that I could think of.
