Originally Silver Isle for Silver Line, a company formed by the J.L. Thompson shipbuilding family brothers John ans Stanley. Built at John Crowns yard, Sunderland, hence John Crown Yard number 234, but the yard had by that time been taken over by the neighboring yard of J.L.Thompson. Doxford 76LBD4 engine, by Hawthorn Leslie, contract 4212

Thanks Ken, no doubt you know the area well.

My ancestor, the first of our family was born nearby and ended up as a whaling Captain, setting up the nieghbouring town to Invercargill, Riverton.
