Hi Ralph and Clive. From the point of view of a shipspotter who used to watch ships from the cliffs at Dover, I always appreciate ship names in large letters which are not in the shade. Having said that, cruise ships were (and still are to an extent) easy to identify even if you can't quite read the name!

For the record Ralph, I was on the ARCADIA. Some pics of her to come soon.

Cheers
Phil

I agree with Ralph, the placing of the name of the ship so high on the hull does seem to look wrong. If it had to be there rather in a more conventional position then the letters should have been the same size as the cabin windows and it should have been located a little further forward to create a bit more space between it and the windows.

Ha Phil, so there IS a point in putting the name where it is now, LOL :-)
Which ship were you on?

Cheers,
Ralph

Thanks Ralph - She does look good and has obviously been brought up to full SOLAS standards despite her age. She was following us around in the Med, later turning up berthed next to us in Valencia. Funnily enough I quite like the name where it is as it means it will never be shaded out under the crease of the fo'c'sle.

Nice shot Phil!

The old SONG OF NORWAY seems to have finally found a good home again in her twilight years. She had a troublesome intermezzo as Caspi Shipping's DREAM PRINCESS and her stint for the Peace Boat organisation wasn't too successful either. Now she's looking good again, except for her name painted in the wrong place (pet peeve of mine. A ship's name ought to placed above the anchor in my opinion).

Brgds.
Ralph
Didn't realise she was owned by ISP!
