Description:

The former HMS Olympus S-12 loaded onto a Floating Drydock from Heddle Marine Services on July 19, 2011. The submarine is bound for the scrap yard in Port Maitland, Ontario. Olympus was built by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd. in Barrow, completing on July 7, 1962. She sailed into Halifax Harbour and was de-commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1989. Olympus was used for alongside training only. In this role, Olympus never went to sea. Shortly after the photo was taken Olympus was towed out of the harbour by the tug Evans McKeil.
