||General cargo ships built 1940 and before (Over 3000gt)|
|Launched at Bremen in March 1939 as RHEINFELS and after being wrecked in 1945, salvaged and rebuilt at Odense, this ship was taken over by the Soviet Union in 1946 as ADMIRAL NACHIMOV but transferred to Poland in 1947 to become KOSCIUSZKO.
The photograph was taken at Las Palmas by Bertil Palm in April 1969 when she was bound for Poland. I had narrowly missed photographing the ship at Brunsbuttel on her next outward voyage, in June 1969. Her following voyage to North Vietnam/North Korea, which had started at Gdynia on 12 March 1970, was perhaps prematurely terminated as breaking is reported to have commenced at Chinnampo, North Korea, in June of that year.
