Description:
Strick Line's BALTISTAN was photographed sailing from Liverpool late on the midday tide of 9th September 1972; the day had started with ASTYANAX arriving at Gladstone lock followed by RAPHAEL sailing and then EFPOLIA docking in the return lock; YANNIS was next to dock at Langton lock followed by BALTISTAN sailing following a voyage from Bhavnagar with a cargo of oilseed. Meanwhile, THORPE GRANGE sailed from the Manchester ship canal.
BALTISTAN had sailed from Bhavnagar on 23rd May, arriving at Liverpool on 16th July, discharging in Alexandra 2 branch dock. Built at South Shields in 1953, this was probably the last photograph of her as BALTISTAN. Soon sold and renamed ELINDIA, she became GULF DIAMOND in 1973 and was wrecked on 20th May 1974, subsequently being broken up at Gadani Beach in September 1974.
