Description:

Seaforth Highlander O/N 359105 shewn here in the North Sea was built in Glasgow in 1976. I was Master of her for 14 trips between 1976 and 1981. Seaforth Maritime of Abereen had originally decided to build 12 ships. Phase 1 were the Seaforth Hero, Seaforth Challenger, Seaforth Chieftain, Seaforth Prince. Phase 2 were the Seaforth Saga, Seaforth Champion, Seaforth Warrior and Seaforth Victor. Phase 3 were the Seaforth Jarl, Seaforth Highlander, Seaforth Conqueror and finally the Seaforth Cape - a diving support vessel with a moon-pool and diving bell.

This vessel came heartbreakingly close to rescuing some of the crew of the semi-sub Ocean Ranger when it sank in a savage winter storm on the Grank Banks on 15 Feb 1982. This year marks the 30th anniversary of that disaster. 84 men died.
