I knew her as 'Fijian' and 'Cotswold Prince' when I sailed on the NZ coast. I was Third Mate on Union Nelson in 1984-85, crossing the Manukau Bar into Onehunga regularly, where 'Fijian' also worked.

We aborted an outbound bar crossing due to heavy weather (the bar was breaking continuously), and went to anchor. 'Fijian' was outside getting a pasting, and the Master decided to bring her in.

Coming across the Bar, the Third Engineer went up on deck to close the skylights. 'Fijian' pooped a big wave, and he was washed overboard. Sadly, his body was washed up on the beach about three days later.

She's actually COTSWOLD PRINCE, a former Prince Line cargo vessel that ended up in NZ owned by a local company. If you use the search function of this site, you will find a couple more photos of her with further information too :-)
