We should not forget the "Doctor Lykes" and a few others from Prudential Lines , Waterman , Central Gulf and Delta Lines. basically all scrapped already

Yes, indeed. Strangely the fairly good idea of barge carriers did not succed in the market. The Baco-Liners are well above 30+ years old now and I don't see any replacement comming up. So the idea will be dead soon

don,t forget the Stonewall Jackson and the Muenchen which sank in 78 ? in the north atlantic. (Not because she was a barge carrier)

Yes. Simple as that :-) The idea behind bargecarriers was to keep the mothership moving and not holding up in port. The cargo in the barges could be discharged later at various places. Other examples of barge carrierers are Bacoliner1/2/3 or Bilderdyk / Rhine Forest

Yes, it does. 1. ballast the vessel , 2. float the barges in , 3. de-ballast => barges hig and dry 4. and off you go with yr ship
