The GNIEZNO II ship, a bulk carrier built by the SCOTSOUN MARINE Ltd. shipyard, for POLSKO-BRYTYJSKIE PRZEDSIEWIECIE ZEGLUGOWE (Polish British Shipping Company). The keel (NB 237) was laid down on May 11, 1978, the ship was launched on November 30, 1978, and commissioned on June 23, 1979. The ship was chartered to PZM (Polish Steamship Company, today a company known as POLSTEAM). . SEPTEMBER 15, 1995, in a very strong storm in the North Sea, the ship was listed (25 degrees) to starboard - as a result of shifting the cargo. The Danish Coast Guard helicopter evacuated the 8 crew members and the vessel reached Gothenburg with the assistance of the tugboat SKULD. Then the ship was sold to GOPLO Shipping, a subsidiary of PZM, and registered under the flag of the Marshall Islands (July 26, 1995). The ship was chartered by POLMICO since 2000.
In February 2003, during the passage with the pilot through the Zandvliet Lock (Antwerp), the ship hit the bridge, which was completely out of use as a result of the accident.
On September 29, 2003, GNIEZNO II changed its flag again, this time to Panamanian. The ship was sold to a Cypriot shipowner and handed over in Szczecin on October 26, 2006. Later, the name was changed to SADENT, and the flag was changed again. This time to CAMBODIA. For three years the ship was employed in tramping in the Far East. Sold for scrap to a Chinese company. Arrived at the Jiangyin scrap yard on December 15, 2009. It was soon demolished.
For such a small ship , the story seems worth recalling .
