Description:

LIBERTAD, owned by E.L.M.A.of Argentina, was photographed passing Rozenburg outbound from Rotterdam on 23rd May 1972 during a voyage from Buenos Aires to London.

Built at Barrow in 1950 as 17 DE OCTUBRE and renamed LIBERTAD in 1955, she sadly stranded on 18th January 1973, suffered a collision on 6th February 1973 and was fire damaged on 20th February 1973. She was finally towed to breakers at Campana, arriving there on 5th August 1975.

Many thanks for your comments and link to the interesting website on Argentine shipping history. I believe that a gentleman called Raul Maya was a well known ship photographer at Buenos Aires many years ago?

Thanks! I remember this ship entering Vigo many times late 60,in her regular trips Argentina/Europe.
