Well Clive, I do have to admit that the later Orient Line have grown on me in recent years. Orient line really did try much more than P&O to be innovative in their designs (see ORSOVA as well) and I do like seeing shots of the ORIANA like this one. Some parts of the superstructure even remind me of old RN destroyers and the like!

Ralph, I suppose it was a case of "well, you just had to be there." Oriana just looked powerful whereas Canberra never did. Yes, Canberra had that clean sweeping line that seems to be what so many ship enthusiasts are captivated by. But there is a greater purposefulness in the external design of Oriana. Internally she was way more attractive than Canberra and all round a far nicer ship to sail on. I rather wish that P&O had shunted Canberra off to Australia and had left Oriana here in the UK.

Let's say that the ORIANA is an "acquired taste" (I am personally more of a CANBERRA person), but nevertheless she looks proud and impressive on this shot!

For some of us, even in 1960, this was a strikingly beautiful liner. All of these years later she still 'looks the business.'

Sorry, but for 1960 this is too ugly.
