Ich danke dir, Sascha! Leider war wieder sehr viel Kleinkram unterwegs... ohne den wäre es perfekt gewesen (na ja, für mich zumindest):-D

Toller Job Jens!

Danijela and João, thank you very much for your nice comments!:-)

Dave, of course I like those red lips... you will remember that Landungsbrücken isn't far from Reeperbahn!:-D

Bob, I don't worry about overcrowded ships. It's the thought that I could spend the whole cruise on a ship without even seeing the sea (apart from checking in and out).:-D

Great photo!!!!:)

These mega cruise ships are so big and have so many public areas, restaurants, etc that the passengers are spread out so widely that there is no feeling of overcrowding on-board.

Excellent photo!!!

So Jens, those big red lips turn you on??????? I would expect that from a Hamburger.

I have news for Malte Classens -- when you are old you won't be able to afford traveling! If I travel anywhere, it just about has to be by ambulance!

Niels, yes, you're right. I'm painfully aware that this photo is cluttered up with cruise ships, a paddle steamer, small boats and a nice old icebreaker. But I had to fill in the gap between Dynawave and San Francisco Bridge/Al Riffa. QM2 and AIDAsol came right on cue.
I promise I'll do better next time!
(And, hey... thanks for your compliment!):-)

Jens, sorry to mention it, but I think that this photo does not live up to your usual standards (whatever these may be!). Reason: lots of free space for a couple of mega containerships, tugs, and whatever floats around on the river.
Regarding cruise ships, or more specific: cruise hotels: well, in case you want to spend some days in luxury on a rush hour subway train, that's OK. In case you are not for enormous masses of steel and flesh, go for a freighter travel instead.
Niels
(It is an excellent photo, Jens, especially due to the icebreaker in the background ;-) )

Phil, when I speak of "coffee machines", "bustles" and "herd instinct " I mean that in a caring way (as Dame Edna would have said)!:-) In fact, as far as I can remember I've been a fan of passenger ships, especially the great ocean liners and nowadays cruise ships, too. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity yet to go on a cruise, but I'd love to... Though I'd prefer a smaller ship (like Malte). Albatros and her sisters, Discovery, Marco Polo... something like that.

person
Jens,

It's not how you imagine it. I think you should give cruise passengers the benefit of the doubt if you have not experienced this type of cruising yourself. :-)

I agree with you, Malte. But when you're old it won't be Europa, I think. It will rather be Europa 2 (or 3?).:-)

Tomas, my friend... to be honored by the master of cruise ships this summer! Thanks:-)
Still don't know what this frenzy is all about every time that QM2 calls at Hamburg, but I must admit I'm part of it as often as I'm able to...

person
Hi Jens, I also like to see them but I don't want to travel on them with several thousand other people. Maybe on the smaller ones like EUROPA when I am old and can afford it ;-)

Edit
comment

person
Isn't it strange then that so many people are crazy about being squashed and squeezed into tiny cabins aboard a cruise ship every day? Must be something like herd instinct then, I think...

Edit

person
Hi Jens, fine photo! Next friday Queen Mary will come to Flaam. Looking forward to that!

Edit
comment

person
They are not livestock carriers but bulk people carriers!

:-D Thank you very much, Malte! It's funny... almost everyone I've talked to today while shipspotting pulled them to pieces. "Livestock carrier" ranks among the more polite words I've heard today. Can't help it, but I like those two floating coffee machines and the lady with the big bustle!:-D

3 livestock carriers at one time - congratulations Jens for this nice shot!
Best regards,
Malte
