Unfortunatelly I didn't see the steamtug at Kaliningrad. But there are more steamships of a similar type in North German area. Here, another one: http://www.schiffahrts-compagnie.de/ It is very popular, they are selling tickets and someone can join on a trip. Never done it myself though :-)

The only still in service steamers on this site I saw were Furie & some other tugs or paddlers, so this one is a big proper ship. Thanks for the site, Cornelia!
Btw, since you've been to Kaliningrad, I'm sure you passed this steam tug by (if she's still standing there):

Not so big, Denis but very unique. The ship does actually not really belong to Hamburg, but seems the Hamburgers got used to it :-) Here some more info: http://www.dampf-eisbrecher-stettin.de/

Nice to see some bigger steamers still in service!

Burning coal indeed Niels, could be seen very far as you see here. http://i45.tinypic.com/2wewevp.jpg Luckily nowadays they have invented less smoking ways to give power to these ships :)

What a wonderful "brecher", - and still burning coal, apparently!
Thanks for posting this, C.
