At this date and at this latitude the sun rises far to the north and sets far to the south so it is quite possible to get the sun on the starboard side of an upbound ship, especially with the numerous bends in the river which may not show up on a general map.

Cannot wrap my head around the directions.
From the shadows on the containers, and the time of year, the sun is almost exactly on the starboard beam and at height of perhaps 45 degrees. This suggests that the ship is heading NE if the photo was taken in the morning, or SE if in the afternoon, anyway eastwards. Surely that is down river?
Does the saint Lawrence river have a 180 degree bend in it?

Plenty of comfortable looking accommodation too, interesting design, full-width bridge etc.

Very nice catch Marcel! Great spot you get there! Quite bursting colors!
Superbe Marcel, les couleurs sont éclantes! Très beau cliché!
