She was a lovely ship, with the nickname Snakey Blakey, because her stern swung from side to side causing a snake shaped wake. I served on her in the early 70's and midships she leaked through the two expansion joints that ran all around the hull and across the iron deck. One just fwd of the hangar screen and another just below the seaboat. You can just make them out on the photo - the fwd one being the clearest, The left barrel of the 6" turret would sometimes 'drop' and during a shoot, the blast blew off the mushroom on the port side, just fwd of the breakwater and above my bunk - I got soaked!

This is long before Rick took photos, late 70's.

Totally agree hideous, but at least the helicopters were more reliable than the guns.

I must have been up here when rick shot this one, wasn't she hideous looking with her late life heliport addition? mrdot.
