Thanks Tony, one day a classy photo of the Waihemo will show up, I have a few of reasonable quality but not great. Chris has been posting some top shots of Aussie and NZ ships especially of late, the kootara and Wanaka being but a couple. I had a friend on the Waihemo from Adelaide, Bronco O'neill, he did some trips on the Waihemo and met his future wife on a Canada voyage, he is still married to her to this day. Thanks Tony.

Mr. Dot,

About 1946 the Union Steam Ship Co of NZ acquired five vessels for their North America/New Zealand run, they were all built in Vancouver and were often referred to as 'Park Boats'. They were:

WAITEMATA
WAIKAWA
WAITOMO
WAIRUNA
WAIHEMO

Good photos of these ships are hard to find now.

Hi Gordy,
I also did a short stint on the 'Waihemo', she was very similar to the 'Waitemata' but unfortunately I didn't take any photos of her.

This was one of the vast wartime standard merchantmen that came from the north vancouver burrard shipyard, many were postwar conversions as this one! mrdot.
