Description:

Returning from the Falklands war on 21st July 1982, looking weathered from the harsh south atlantic waters.

The Herald was a survey ship converted to hospital ship for the Falklands. She arrived at the Falklands on 26th May 1982 joining her sister ships HMS Hecla, Hydra & also SS Uganda. She transported casualties from the SS Uganda to Montevideo, Uruguay. She returned with HMS Hermes to Portsmouth, HMS Herald entering Portsmouth harbour first.

She can be distinguished from her sister ship HMS Hecla due to having a smaller Red Cross on her sides. HMS Heralds`s Red Cross only goes as far high as the portholes, while on HMS Hecla the Red Cross goes inches away from the deck & almost to the waterline.
