In 2015 I had a personal message asking me if this picture of the Angelina Lauro could be used in a short documentary picture that was being made about the New Zealand artist Robert Rapson. The documentary can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/153564944. It makes a pleasant change to have ones photos used and credited rather than just appear under someone else's name.

Her crew named her "Angelina the Ballerina"due to her stability, especially in rough seas. The service on board was excellent from Captain to all crew.

I also remember that one of the three engines had a huge bearing and connecting rod consumed and during the voyage he felt a strong vibratione throughout the ship.
I wonder why, during the review in the dock, they have never repaired ...
Probably this problem had already the ORANJE ...

The preceding of the very good Angelina Lauro was her ex ORANJE, a great passenger ship of those days. I had seen ORANJE at Rotterdam port in 1958 and she seemed then impressively large, being of a very exceptional look and duly spotted by everyone tourist attending the harbor cruise.
Already in those days she was "spoken" as a liner of having a small stability problem, as she was always slightly tilted to the starboard side even during her berthing at port.

I remember each place of this Lady, because I did work on board as cabin crew member in the 1968/70: particularly impressives the engines, 3 enormous SULZER 12 cyl. and the propellors, seen during drydock.
A very good idea were the "Raffaello-like" funnel, but I remember that the ship rolled too much caused by the funnel too high and heavy...

I agree that this transformation was successful. Oranje always looked impressive when passing Amsterdam Central Station, except after she collided with Willem Ruys during the Atlantic rendez-vous, but Angelina Lauro was't lucky either.

I liked her in both guises; she was like two entirely different ships. Both lovely.

I never cared much for her as ORANJE, but as ANGELINA LAURO she looked stunning!
