Description:

A second of a few passing shots of this vessel. We doubted that many would be turning up for dinner that night as someone commented against the previous photo.
Heading SouthWest across Biscay one late afternoon in early 1966. Photo taken from ST London Tradition.

I have only one experience of the vicious nature of the Bay of Biscay, when I was working in Southampton. A highway project was in progress and the granite for the kerb stones had to be imported. The ship involved was caught in a Biscay storm and sank. The project had to be delayed while a new cargo was obtained!

Another fine shot....as obviously appreciated by many on here.
I too was a R/O but was not, unfortunately, into photography. (1970 onward) otherwise...who knows, we could have been vying for plaudits on here!
Reading some of your other posts today, you have obviously spent a lot of time & care bringing these fine old ships back to us. Thank You! BRGDS.Steve.

Hi Nico,
The photos were mostly AGFA colour slides in 1966 and anything earlier than that was on Kodachrome II. They were scanned in and digitised between 2005 and 2007. Most had retained their colour okay but some had grown spots on them. Initially I let the scanner remove the spots using built in software but I didn't like the results very much. So I switched to manually removing them as it has no overall effect on the rest of the slide. A small number had changed colour and using a 'remove colour cast' option on the processing software was usually successful with that.It took me most of my spare time over those two years to do about 1500 slides. When I look at some of the earlier ones that I let the scanner do automatically I think I need to go back and do them again manually.
Thanks for the interest,
Regards,
Dave

This is really very nice.
How did you manage to keep the colour on these photo's after 46 years!

I wish that I were aboard her right now and in a sea like that. Yes, I'd be turning up for dinner!
