Description:

Here on "Shipspotting" I usually upload pictures of container ships, and "Cardonia" is no exception. However, this picture goes into "Casualties" category.
There is a reason for abnormally shallow draft of the vessel pictured here: a 1.5x2 meters hole in the ship's side, caused by an out of control fishing vessel slamming into "Cardonia" in the wee hours of one night in January 2010. The hole was in HFO storage tank, fortunately empty at the time of the incident. However, some residue at the bottom of the tank still caused pollution of the nearby sea, so the ship was completely de-ballasted to try to keep the hole above the waterline.
Three days later, with the hole in her side temporarily repaired by a doubler plate, "Cardonia" sailed to China for permanent repairs...

Cargo tanks in tankers against shell plating have been banned, yes.
But not fuel oil storage tanks for ship's engine(s), which are routinely placed in double bottom or side areas.

I thought fuel tanks against the shell plating had been banned already in 2003...
