I was going to reply to this a while ago but was chased outside to cut the grass 'before it rained'. The grass is cut and we now have blue skies. I found a picture of the Thompson Lykes and confirmed that they were of the same class and magnified the name on her. Whilst it was no more readable than I find mine to be, the first character in both cases was a good match and definitely not an M. So I'll make the change to Thompson shortly. Thanks for all the assistance. Much appreciated.

Having magnified the image I can read Thompson Lykes on bow and stern

No problem with that. After looking into the fleet list I ended up with four first names that were long enough to match to the mystery ship. Thompson was one of them but the Miramar info provided seemed to knock that on the head. I had rescanned the slide and magnified the bow but the characters didn't look like anything readable Marjorie or otherwise. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the help.

I have just put the entire fleet list in a spreadsheet and eliminated all ships not built between 1960 and 1965 and having less than 8 characters in their first name. Marjorie was looking good to me too. Thanks for the help and confirmation.
