I am well aware that the new technical gimmicks nowadays a must. Bad part is that practical skills are not only not more wanted but even to point as disliked. The problem there is,,that when the technical gimmicks don,t wok, than the old fashioned comes in,, that,s exactly what is not teached and requested anymore. ECDIS for example, a very good thing,,but also a accident creator in the wrong hands

Thank you for your response Capt. Ted.
From a decks boy you have achieved all the way-up to a top career of a Captain, and today I recognize that you are a very well experienced, but a traditional guided Captain, maintaining the personal fix standing "My ship is the first!!!" I highly appreciate such a personality.

Nice to see her still active, I remember her well on the Thames as Brendonia & Brendonian.

Would you Capt.Ted like to cruise on this ship for 2-3 weeks instead of being aboard a today modern cruiser?
To make your answer more simple, in any case, I also don't like the today mega cruisers !
About this query I do not expect any answer from Capt.Ted (am I maybe mistaken??).

Hi Jens,, I can do without those boxers !!! How the traffic lights doing ?
Jens Boldt on Aug 05, 2012 22:31 (9 months ago)
A gem, Theo. I wouldn't mind if ships like this were sailing up and down the Elbe all day (in addition to the mega boxers of course)!:-)

hi capt peter
I think I heard the term CARTONETA before. Thanks for the infos. Vacation again ?
Captain Peter on Aug 05, 2012 21:46 (9 months ago)
Hi Capt Ted,

here in the area these old small coasters are locally known as "CARTONETA", due to their frequent cargo of cartons stowed on deck) mostly containing electronics, household appliances, machinery and car spare parts etc etc for Colombia and other neighboring countries). Panama is an important hub for such cargoes.

They often have funny flags (Sierra Leone, Bolivia ...)

That might be as it is victor,, but those staight up sterns were/are a trademark for those coasters. In these water one can find still quite a lot of them

No doubt from my side Capt Ted,but don´t tell that to (for example)Cornelia,hehe..
Best regards

Hi Arne
I thought she might be british built because of the square
stern, typical for coasters in those days builded in the isles
Arne Jürgens on Aug 05, 2012 16:02 (9 months ago)
Hi Ted,
another great one of your collection! Don't now that this former 'british merchantman' is still alive. Have seen her sometimes as the former BRENDONIAN.

Thanx for sharing these nice pics with us!

Brgds
Arne
