If I remember it right the site standards recommend setting the date to the first of the month if you only know month and year of the picture. So in many cases it means simply "in August". The description implies this, too.

Very nice photograph, but it can not have been taken on 1st August 1971, as the ship only arrived Lisbon on 7th August 1971 at the end of her final voyage to Angola and Cape Verde under the houseflag of Sociedade Geral. She was laid up in Lisbon and sold in 1972 to Greek interests.

She would sail on for a further 32 years after this picture was taken, finally being beached under the scrapper's name KHAW at Alang on 1/6/'03.
