This photograph truly depicts the splendour of the golden age at sea and probably for many seafarers. The sea conditions will bring back memories for many as much as the vessel itself. These sea states whilst not so dramatic, were undoubtedly part of the life. Thankyou.

Thanks Tony,
It was the frustration of having interesting subjects at sea that were too far away to be worth photographing that drove me to parting with my money. However, all the photos from the Manaar, London Majesty and London Confidence (1964 through to 1965)were taken on a modest Halina 35mm camera that cost £9 in the UK. In the end both cameras were well worth the money.

I envy you David, having a 135mm lens in 1966, luxury, sheer luxury. At least you put it to good use recording the end of the golden years of the British merchant navy.
Well done, regards, Tony.

Thanks Chris, that's nice to know. I nearly didn't upload this as it was one of the first slides that I scanned back in 2005, leaving all the tidying to the scanner software. It had come out looking awful and I'd assumed that the slide had deteriorated too much over the years. Yesterday I decided there was probably a moderate picture in there if I fine tuned the scanner and did some repair work afterwards. The photo was taken using a 135mm telephoto lens and a 3x convertor in poor light, so I wasn't exactly onto a winner from the start. It is far better than the original attempt.
