Hi!
By rule of thumb - white or whitish smoke indicates that (usually unwanted) water is involved in the combustion process. Black or dark grey exhaust gas would indicate poor combustion or too much fuel and blued exhaust gas gives a hint on an engine that burns lubrication oil. Or maybe they simply cleaned their turbocharger (normally your supposed to wait until your out of the channel to start that). Brgds, Stefan |

| It started just after she passed the highrise buildings off Maassluis. It does not happen often that a vessel dares to "soot" in the Rotterdam area. It stopped about 10 mins. later, when it was noted I was taking pictures. But I don't know what caused this particular out burst. At first it seemed more a technical problem than a deliberate occurence. But since it stopped abruptly, it may have been a controlled emission....I wonder what a C/E would have to say ! |

| I saw that yesterday from a distance, were the ships behind her (a.o. Aframax tanker Aegean Faith) forced to slow down? I could not see around the corner.... |
