She was the second and more lucky ship to suffer a major grounding off Timaru.

Previously the brand new British ship Elginshire ran aground nearby in 1892 and was a total loss.

Chris,
You no doubt recall this ship ran aground shortly after leaving Timaru on a voy to Dunedin. . She was near new at the time so maybe 1964/65. I wonder if there are any photos of that incident. I remember at the time seeing photos in the newspaper of the local fishing fleet retrieving bales of wool from the sea after being jettisoned to lighten the ship.
