I planned to see it well in advance of the day but it was rather spoiled by the weather.
Kind regards

Hi Pieter,
Maybe I should have identified the ships but did follow this one with a separate shot of each one. I can understand your point of view, maybe a tweak is needed for rules group shots.

Hi Clyde,
I was in shelter mainly due to the brother in law being able to get us there. An awful day but a great sight.

Hi Robbie,
I was lucky to be able to get shots between wiping the camera lens! there was a large crowd who mainly got very wet!

Cool photo, Derek! I dare say that this is the kind of photo you get once in a lifetime...

Theo, the occasion I think was something like P&O's 175 (?) birthday if I'm not mistaken.

Morning Derek,,btw,,what was the occasion for this parade of meat boxes ?

Nice picture, giving a good overview of the event. I can't help though thikning about a shot I posted a couple of months ago showing 5 or 6 Smit tugs waiting for customers in the mouth of the new waterway. This shot got deleted because it did not meet the site standards, as the ships were not regonisable....Perhaps time to adapt these standards? Be more flexible? Create a category "Monty Python"? ("And now for something completely different") Just a thought.

Well done Derek. I hope you didn't get wet capturing (I like that word) that procession.

Great photo Derek, I'm glad someone managed to get a shot of them all. Wish I could have been there.

Hi Del, I bet that really was a sight, notwithstanding the rain and leaden skies.
Some doomsayers might wish they had been sold, en masse, and are pictured here wending their way to Alang?!
LOL
Where have you been lately, & see you at the WSS next Thursday?
Cheers, Rick

Hi Clive,
What I meant is that you cannot go backwards in time.
I love the older ships and have many memories of them.
But unless someone winds the clock back we have what is on offer in the present day. I am not saying its better (certainly not in looks) but its what we have and there is no stopping the march of time.

Progress: I quote from a Collins Thesaurus: Advance, betterment, development, growth, improvement, increase, progression.
Well those ships are advancing down Southampton Water;
to the betterment of the cruise industry? Well that is up for discussion.
Development; yes, they are all examples of the development of the phenomena we know as 'the cruise ship'.
Growth; certainly they are examples of the growth of the Carnival Corporation.
Improvement: again, it is up for discussion whether or not the likes of Azura are an improvement over Oriana and Aurora for example.
Increase: yes those ships may perhaps be an indication of an increase in the fortunes of the Carnival Corporation's profits.
Progression: well that brings us full circle. Yes it is a progression of ships down Southampton Water.
But I find the statement "We cannot stop progress" rather passive. Fine, if you like those ships and are happy to sail on them but it is a view that implies that what ever is offered the consumer will passively accept - and thankfully, that isn't the case.

Hi Søren,
Thanks for your comment what a pity the Weather did not co-operate on the day. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
but generally I love to see and photograph most ships.

Hi Derek. This is a very spectacular view! I envy You the possibility for seeing this scenery, and I guess it happens once in a while? :-)
Denis, I think it depends of the eye of the beholder... Well, they are not all pretty, but I don't think they are downright ugly - actually I personally prefer the new, modern cruise ships.
Thanks for sharing this impressive moment, Derek!
Kind regards,
Søren

Derek, the scene is indeed impressive but all I see is a row of ugly boxy cruisers! If only there were cruisers built before 80s or just tallships, now that would be magnificent! :D
