She sailed originally under the Soviet Union flag as JOHN REED from 1978 until becoming DZONS RIDS in 1991.

You'd be surprised Tom.
If we get a couple of weeks of deep freeze, that ice will jam up somewhere in choke points between Montréal and Québec City and ships like her could stall in the ice like in February 1993 when the channel was jammed up solid for two weeks.
It's the river current that keeps the ice moving along with icebreaker work in sensitive areas. Also it has not been really cold yet which really helps. But our winter isn't over yet and it could give us a few nasty surprises...

Beautiful shot as always Marc. That ice doesn't stand a chance with all those ships transiting through it. :-D
