A beautiful-looking ship, but with a weird, lurching roll that made watch-keeping rough on one's knees, especially in a beam sea. We used to load LNG at Arzew, Algeria, and discharge at Canvey Island, London, with occasional trips to Le Havre. In Jan/Feb 1972, we assisted the single-handed sailboat "Nomis" whose owner had been injured in a Force 11 off Portland Bill. Captain Stanley Dean made a lee for him (not easy with a single-screw steam turbine ship, with no Bow Thruster) until the Poole RNLI arrived with a doctor.
