Piet Hein was a famous Danish character. Using his prowess as a Poet he fortified Danish resistance during the occupation of Denmark.
Scandinavian architects, tired of square buildings but cognizant that circular buildings were impractical, asked Piet Hein for a solution. Applying his mathematical prowess to the problem, Piet Hein proposed to use the 'Superellipse' which became the hallmark of modern Scandinavian architecture. You could buy Stainless Steel superellipses in the late 60's - early 70's as souvenirs... bought a couple myself ... lovely shapes.
