Description:

"Wairimu" Evens Bay, Wellington
Photo credit: the late Geordie Stevens

The WAIRIMU was in the Union Co. fleet from 1948 to 1966.

Built in 1941 on the Pacific coast at Tacoma, Washington by the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Co. as the "Cape Alva", she is another fine example of a hard working "C1-B".

Hello dedge, Thanks for identifying the inter-island ferry in the background.
I see there are no photos of the old "Rangatira" on site.
Would you, or any one else, happen to have a photo of her to upload?
Regards Tony

Ship in the background is the inter-island ferry Rangatira. Wairimu is a C1-B type and was the first of this class to be built as a motorship.
